The Legacy Award
Recognizing graduates of the United States Military Academy who have worked to better the LGBTQ+ and military communities. 

The 2022 Knights Out Legacy Award was presented to Dr. Lissa Young ’86, for her inspiring service to the United States Military Academy’s Corps of Cadets and the United States Army. Dr. Young also serves as the faculty advisor to USMA Spectrum. 

Past Recipients of the Knights Out Legacy Award

Lucian Truscott IV ’69 – recognized for his lifelong advocacy for LGBTQ+ equality.  

Ed Urbaniak ’89 – recognized for decades of leadership in the LGBTQ+ military community, including serving as chairman of the Service Academy Gay and Lesbian Alumni.

Howie Titzel ’01 – recognized for his leadership as cadet mentor following DADT repeal and as the founding Officer-in-Charge for USMA Spectrum.

LTG (R) Robert Caslen ’75 – recognized for his leadership as Superintendent, fostering a diverse culture at West Point, including his support of USMA Spectrum.
