Knights Out and USNA Out Appear on NPR together

Listen to WYPR from Baltimore as Dan Rodricks discusses the controversial Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy.  Learn about the founding and work of two Service Academy Alumni groups from Becky Kanis, chair of Knights Out, a group for LGBT West Point alumni; Jeff Voigt, also of Knights Out; and Skip Muller, a member of USNA Out, a group for U.S. Naval Academy alumni.

“In Their Boots: Silent Partners” Screened in Los Angeles

“Silent Partners,” a 30-minute documentary portraying the experience of gay partners of deployed service members, was screened to an audience at Sony Pictures Studios’ Backstage Theatre in Los Angeles Thursday night.  Knights Out members Dan Choi ‘03 introduced the film, and he and Grad Supporter Brian Baker ‘84 answered questions as part of a discussion panel after the screening.

Dan Choi Tells More on NPR’s “Tell Me More”

Listen to this 12 minute NPR Segment. Dan Choi explains why telling the truth is so important for West Pointers.  Dan points out that when President Obama met with gay rights leaders last week, he asked them to “judge me by my actions, not by my words.”  And yet, the very next day, 1LT Choi was judged by his words - for telling the truth - and his actions, years of honorable service and sacrifice, meant nothing.

On Sunday morning, the 40th anniversary of the historic Stonewall riots in New York City, history was made once again. This time it was in San Francisco, where members and allies of an American military service academy gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender alumni organization marched openly as an official contingent in a gay pride parade.
